Jim Springer, a member of the Columbia Breakfast Rotary Club, is a retired CPA and financial planner. He was born and reared in Columbia, Tennessee, graduated from Tennessee Tech earning a BS degree, accounting major, and served three years as an officer in the United States Army. After a career in public accounting, in private industry as controller and chief financial officer, and as a self-employed licensed security representative, insurance agent and financial planner, Jim retired in 2009.

Jim is a past president and charter member of the Columbia Breakfast Rotary Club. The Club was chartered in June 1997. Jim has maintained perfect attendance since that date and been selected twice by his club as Rotarian of the Year. He is a multi-level Paul Harris Fellow, served three years as Assistant Governor, and is a graduate of District 6760 Leadership Academy.

Active in his local community, Jim has served on the boards of Maury County Red Cross, Leadership Maury, Boys & Girls Club of Maury County, Rippavilla Plantation, Maury Vision 20/20, and Maury County Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee. He is also a graduate of Leadership Maury.

Jane, Jim's wife and a Paul Harris Fellow, is employed by the Maury County Convention & Visitors Bureau. They have two daughters and two grandsons.

The District Governor and his wife joined the Lewisburg Rotary Club for its August 4 meeting at Russell Catering to praise the club for its efforts and to remind them why the Rotary is important around the world.

“Rotary is about service and fellowship,” Springer said. “And that equals fun.”

He reminded the members to remain actively engaged in the mission of Rotary, not only around the world, but in the local community as well. One Lewisburg Rotary project, Rotarians on a Mission, especially impressed Springer. Lewisburg Rotarian Angie Binkley started and directs this project that chooses a new local cause to support through donations of funds or items of need. The program so impressed the District Governor that he expressed his interest to take the program to other club throughout the 63-club district and to clubs all across the state.

“This is a wonderful program,” said Springer. “You have much for which to be proud here at the Lewisburg Rotary Club.”

By way of welcome and thanks, the Lewisburg Rotary members collected a donation of funds to be presented to the District Governor for the Rotary Foundation. Lewisburg Rotary President Larry Lance presented Springer with a check in his honor to help continue the good works of Rotary around the world.
